THE FOUNDERS STORY
After two decades in enterprise technology, AI alignment, business transformation, and problem-solving, I landed what most would call a dream opportunity. Venture capital discussions for an AI startup in Australia. But sitting in that room, I realised something. I didn’t want to help corporations amplify efficiency anymore.
I wanted to make people happy. Lots of them. Globally.
As a mining-industry family who roamed from site to site and country to country, I’d watched my mother create an outdoor living space for us in every new place we landed. And like many Australians, I travelled and lived abroad. Across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, the UK, and the US, I’ve seen what research now confirms. Green space doesn’t just look nice. It fundamentally changes how we feel and engage with the world.
My background isn’t traditional outdoor-living design, although after 22 homes I’ve had plenty of practice. From tiny potted kitchen gardens in a US camper van, to little havens on UK balconies, and large family-friendly entertainment spaces in Australia, I’ve learned what works, and spectacularly what does not. Lavender in the pool area? Energetic bees + excited kids = total chaos! Lesson learned. Beauty must be functional!
During COVID quarantine, our family locked down in place like everyone else. But we had multiple outdoor rooms. While others struggled with lockdown, we gathered for breakfast in the front terrace, read books on the outdoor daybed, exercised in the back garden, and dined in the downstairs courtyard. We emerged not just intact, but closer.
Meanwhile, new apartment towers kept rising around my neighbourhood. Beautiful buildings with minimal green space. Having spent time in Europe where even tiny balconies become gathering and dining spaces, I knew it didn’t have to be this way.
So, I founded Terrace Australia aka Terrace [AU] in 2025. For a global audience who might be interested in Australian aesthetics & lifestyle. For the young people who are spreading their wings and making their way in the world. And for down-sizing empty nesters trying to recreate the magic of larger gardens in tiny terraces. The cornerstone of these transformations is the Design +AI Journey Arc.
In short, it combines rigorous design thinking with accessible technology, so you can create professional-quality outdoor spaces without the professional-level budget. Showcasing real work from award-winning Australian designers, providing expert templates, and integrating AI as your design assistant, not to replace creativity, but to amplify it.
Because in an increasingly chaotic world, having a place where you can be genuinely happy with family and friends is such a pleasure.
I hope that you enjoy your journey with us. Feel free to send me a note, feedback, or photos. I’d love to see what you create.
